The lucky owner of a lab grown jewelry like a diamond ring, diamond earrings, or a pendant probably wants her beautiful jewelry to stay as new and the diamonds to be as sparkling as they were on the day she bought them.

So, how do you properly care for your diamond or diamond jewelry?

First, you must follow a few simple rules when wearing them, so that you do not have to go to the jeweler a week after the purchase.

If possible, try to take the jewelry off when you come home. Also remove the jewelry piece while cooking.

To prevent any harm to your lab grown diamond jewelry, please apply body products like lotion, moisturizer, sunscreen, perfume, and body spray prior to wearing the jewelry. By doing so, you can ensure that these substances do not come into contact with your diamonds, maintaining their pristine condition. Don’t wear your jewelry in the bath and sauna, as high humidity and temperature do not contribute to the shine; moreover, you can simply lose your item.

Do not forget that it is better to store your jewelry not on an open shelf, but in a small jewelry box. This will keep your jewelry from getting dusty. It is better to have a separate box for different jewelry items so that the items inside are not rubbing against each other but are resting on a soft surface.

Be ready for the fact that after a while the jewelry will accumulate a little dirt, which is usually situated in the smallest grooves of the pattern or just in the most hard-to-reach places of the piece.

For a ring that endures the test of time, it is recommended to clean it on a weekly basis or at least once every two weeks. Delaying the cleaning process may result in hardened dirt that cannot be easily removed using simple home methods, compromising its cleanliness and sparkle. In such cases, seeking professional assistance from a jeweler becomes necessary to ensure a thorough and effective cleaning.

To preserve the utmost brilliance and radiance of your jewelry, it is advisable to clean it no more frequently than once per week. Additionally, it is recommended to have your diamonds professionally cleaned by a jeweler twice a year, as this helps prevent the buildup of debris and dust in hard-to-reach areas. By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure that your jewelry retains its maximum shine and sparkle.

Diamond and jewelry cleaning solutions

Sometimes it’s enough to wash your jewelry with soap and water, with the help of a gentle tooth brush or soft sponge or cloth. This method is particularly suitable for cleaning chains and objects with large parts (pendants).

Diamond rings and earrings can be cleaned very well with vodka or weak alcohol. For such cases, pour the alcohol into a cup and dip the jewelry in it for a few seconds, or use a cotton swab dipped in this liquid for heavier soiling. There is no need to rub the piece with force, just run a moistened cotton swab over it. These actions will be sufficient to restore the gold to its luster and the diamond to its unique sparkle.

Remember: never use strong abrasives (e.g. baking soda) to clean your jewelry, as they scratch the gold and may damage its appearance. Also, do not use various household solutions (e.g. vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or manganese solution). For example, iodine will permanently change the color of gold by entering into an oxidation reaction with it. It will only be possible to correct such a defect if you polish the gold again.

Some people are still convinced that a diamond is the hardest stone, that it does not sink in water or burn in fire. This is not true at all.

Some people are still convinced that a diamond is the hardest stone, that it does not sink in water or burn in fire. This is not true at all.

This is true of the diamond, the raw material from which the diamond is later cut by craftsmen. Also, it is true that diamond is very hard and nature has created it with a cloudy, molten coating; professionals call it a “shirt”. The diamond’s “shirt” is a consequence of the high temperature inside the earth, where the stone was formed. A cutter, by removing this layer, reshapes the stone to the shape of a diamond, thus adding to the stone the fragility and sensitivity to temperatures above 700 °C, to the many positive properties that the stone acquires (luster, transparency, and sparkle).

This is why you should never try to check the authenticity of your diamond by fire or shock. In the first case there is a high probability that the stone will break completely, and in the second case your irresistible diamond will be covered by a thin muddy layer, which may be removed only after being polished again in a cutting factory, but it will lose its initial size, weight, and maybe even its cut quality.

Take care of your diamonds, especially if they were given to you with love, and take care of them as much as possible. Remember that every six months it is advisable to take your jewelry to a jeweler for cleaning in an ultrasound bath, and if necessary to polish them to the condition of new ones. Then your irresistible diamond rings, earrings or pendants will bring you joy every day!
