Since lab-grown diamonds do not differ from mined diamonds, the care for them is the same.

Most of us wear jewelry for a long time and do not take it off for years.  And at some point, you find out that the wedding ring is deformed, the earring of the pair did not survive the walk, and the brightest stone fell out of the brooch just by chance. But these troubles can be prevented if you follow a few simple rules.

First, let’s talk a little bit about the myth “A diamond can’t be damaged”.

A diamond can scratch glass and most other gemstones. If you press it with a hydraulic press, it will leave an indentation on the press. Its hardness gives it the ability to withstand elevated temperatures and be resistant to all kinds of acids.

But the diamond itself is also easily damaged because its hardness is not uniform.  In addition, hardness and brittleness are different things, and a diamond can be easily damaged by dynamic impact. And its chipping will reduce the price by at least 15%. However, if you hit a diamond with a hammer (especially if you hit a special “chipping” point), it will break into smaller pieces. A diamond can also be scratched… by another diamond.

Biggest Don’ts in Handling your Diamond Jewelry

We recommend that you do not touch the stone when wearing it. Each touch leaves an imperceptible imprint that negatively affects the sparkle of the diamond.

Do not keep your diamond jewelry on a shelf or dressing table.

Do not leave for long periods of time or store your diamond jewelry in a room with high humidity.

Please, do not store the stones in bright light or under a lamp.

Also, please, do not get your silver jewelry wet.

Additionally, do not wear jewelry during physical work, workouts, household chores and hygiene procedures, overnight.

Do not throw your jewelry on a firm surface.

Remember that seawater is not the best friend of precious metals and some stones. In addition, it is easy to lose a loose ring or bracelet with a toggle in the sea.

Remember to remove all jewelry before applying cream or other cosmetics to your skin. By nature, diamonds like to attract oily substances and dust, so don’t let powder, foundation or perfume tarnish them.

Diamond jewelry, like other jewelry, is not friendly with chlorinated water, salt, medicines and any abrasive substances that can harm gemstones and metals. So please, do not spray perfume near the pieces; also put on your jewelry only 10 min after applying makeup and perfume. For gold, the worst enemy is iodine, and it is often added to pool water, so check this beforehand.

The main rule for safekeeping diamond jewelry

In order for diamond jewelry to remain in perfect condition for as long as possible, it is necessary to keep them separate not only from each other, but also from other jewelry. After all, the notorious durability and hardness of a diamond can play into the hands of scratches, chips, and cracks.

Jewelry Holders

To avoid twisting or tangling of bracelets and chains with diamond pendants, it is better to use special stands, like jewelry trees, rotating necklace/bracelet holders, jewelry holder stands etc.

Jewelry Box

Even hard gemstones are guaranteed to scratch each other if stored chaotically in a pile.

So keep large jewelry in separate closed jewelry boxes or caskets with rigid walls, where they will be separate from each other, protected from dirt, bright sunlight.

On the contrary, it is better to cover the inside with soft fabric. The more compartments and compartments in the jewelry box, the better. It is more convenient to sort and search for jewelry, so they will be better protected and from damage to each other.

It is better if each piece of jewelry will be packed in a separate bag or box, so that they are not damaged by rubbing against each other. They should be placed freely and lie on a soft surface.

Natural Stone Jewelry Box

Like we already said, the diamond jewelry is best kept in a jewelry box.

Such a box can also be made of natural stone, such as agate or serpentine.

This jewelry box should be spacious enough. Do not mix your diamond pieces with the rest of the jewelry, this can lead to micro cracks on the stones.
